Why is it dangerous to chase after manifestations?
1. Read 1 Corinthians 12:7–11 and discuss the manifestations of the gifts of the Spirit. How are these gifts distributed to individuals?
2. Read Galatians 5:22–23 and discuss the fruit of the Spirit. How do these manifest in our lives?
3. What are the two unhealthy extreme perspectives on manifestations that were discussed in this study?
4. Discuss the healthy "middle of the road" biblical perspective that we should have concerning manifestations. What is the key to staying in that place, according to Proverbs 22:4 and James 4:10?
5. Did Jesus seek demons or manifestations? Discuss the importance of understanding that God initiates visitations and manifestations for a purpose, not indicators of His favor.
These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get will.

DISCUSSION:
This week we will discuss how God desires to manifest His presence and word from the heavenly realm, which He does by the Holy Spirit. We often hear the word manifestation, and the Bible speaks of many different types; however, there has been quite a bit of confusion concerning this topic. I sense the Lord wants me to clarify this because many people seek after manifestations, yet they don't have a strong foundation; therefore, it's really easy to have a mixture with some manifestations that are not of the Spirit.
Most of us have witnessed ministry that was partially of the Spirit, yet crossed over into the soulish realm. As we have discussed in previous teachings, every person has three parts: spirit, soul, and body. Your soul is comprised of your mind, will, and emotions. Then there's the part of you that is spirit, which is the born-again human spirit if you become a Christian. All people have been created as spiritual beings who live in bodies and have souls. Ministers can operate under the leading of the Holy Spirit, then shift to being led by their emotions, perceptions, or even the demonic that operates through the soulish realm; this is why it is dangerous to seek after manifestations.
GIFTS AND FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit [the spiritual illumination and the enabling of the Holy Spirit] for the common good. To one is given through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] the message of wisdom, and to another [the power to express] the word of knowledge and understanding according to the same Spirit; to another [wonder-working] faith [is given] by the same [Holy] Spirit, and to another the [extraordinary] gifts of healing by the one Spirit; and to another the working of miracles, and to another prophecy [foretelling the future, speaking a new message from God to the people], and to another discernment of spirits [the ability to distinguish sound, godly doctrine from the deceptive doctrine of man-made religions and cults], to another various kinds of [unknown] tongues, and to another interpretations of tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues. All these things [the gifts, the achievements, the abilities, the empowering] are brought about by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, distributing to each individually just as He chooses.
—1 Corinthians 12:7–11 AMP
But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
—Galatians 5:22–23 AMP
Manifestations that are from God happen by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:7–11 lists the nine gifts of the Spirit, which are interpreted as manifestations of the Spirit. We also have the fruit of the Holy Spirit, the Lord's personality traits manifested through a human being's spirit. We should see the fruit and gifts of the Spirit coming forth, which originate from the other realm.
There are many different opinions concerning manifestations of the Holy Spirit. One of my pilots had been researching and asked me about the subject. He had discovered that some "Bible-believers" say we shouldn't be focusing on manifestations because they don't believe God does miracles anymore; they think we should only focus on the word of God. Then he found another camp that believes we should seek manifestations because they are evidence that God is working. When he asked me about this, I explained that there is a middle-of-the-road where we don't form doctrine based on manifestation. In other words, what we believe is based on the word of God, which is the absolute truth established in Heaven. It is also essential to understand that if something doesn't manifest, it doesn't mean it's not true; it just means there's a discrepancy between the realms.
There are not only physical and spiritual realms but also the psychological or soulish realm. Even though a person's spirit may be willing, their flesh may be weak, like Jesus said in the garden before He was crucified (Matthew 26:41). He was talking about the fact that the disciples needed to pray with him for an hour; still, they kept falling asleep, which was really spiritual warfare. He kept telling them essentially, "You've got to pray with me. Stay in there with me. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." The whole idea is that sometimes you must stand your ground until the manifestation comes through from the spirit realm into the physical realm.
It's crucial to have the correct biblical belief system; be careful to avoid having a wrong focus on manifestations. We don't want to discredit manifestations, but we don't want to chase after them either. Many people seek after and pursue manifestations, while others discredit the supernatural; both of these perceptions are wrong. We will continue to dive into the scriptures to gain an understanding of the truth concerning this matter.
o Why is it dangerous to chase after manifestations?
TRUE HUMILITY ALLOWS THE HOLY SPIRIT TO MANIFEST
I grew up in a staunch religious atmosphere where they were against miracles and discredited them as being from the devil. I also went through a phase of my life where I chased after manifestations like many people have, so I went through both extremes. One crucial point I want to address is the importance of humility. If I had been much more humble, I wouldn't have had to go through some of the hardships I endured. People tried to tell me, and the Holy Spirit tried to get the truth across, yet some truths took me many years to learn.
I remember sitting in Kenneth Hagin's class, between 15 and 20 feet from him, and listening to his teachings, some of which were extremely challenging. When he said certain things, I could feel the entire group of students resist him. There were times the class didn't agree with him, and he would call us out, saying, "Well, you just put the brakes on me—I could feel it. But you'll have to accept this because it is the word of God." The student body was not humble enough to accept some of his teachings. However, after 30 years, I discovered he was right about almost everything he said. It came back around to the fact that I needed to mature. Now my humility is to a place where I can accept truth without going through hardship.
True humility and the fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life.
—Proverbs 22:4 NLT
True humility will allow you to find yourself in a position where the Holy Spirit can manifest in your life. Humility will also enable you to remain in the Spirit.
