Discuss:

Why is it dangerous to chase after manifestations?

1. Read 1 Corinthians 12:7–11 and discuss the manifestations of the gifts of the Spirit. How are these gifts distributed to individuals?

2. Read Galatians 5:22–23 and discuss the fruit of the Spirit. How do these manifest in our lives?

3. What are the two unhealthy extreme perspectives on manifestations that were discussed in this study?

4. Discuss the healthy "middle of the road" biblical perspective that we should have concerning manifestations. What is the key to staying in that place, according to Proverbs 22:4 and James 4:10?

5. Did Jesus seek demons or manifestations? Discuss the importance of understanding that God initiates visitations and manifestations for a purpose, not indicators of His favor.

Manifestations Come From the Holy Spirit as God Wills

"Having true humility will allow you to find yourself in a position where the Holy Spirit can manifest in your life."
~Kevin Zadai

These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get will.
Mark 16:17–18 AMP

DISCUSSION:
This week we will discuss how God desires to manifest His presence and word from the heavenly realm, which He does by the Holy Spirit. We often hear the word manifestation, and the Bible speaks of many different types; however, there has been quite a bit of confusion concerning this topic. I sense the Lord wants me to clarify this because many people seek after manifestations, yet they don't have a strong foundation; therefore, it's really easy to have a mixture with some manifestations that are not of the Spirit.

Most of us have witnessed ministry that was partially of the Spirit, yet crossed over into the soulish realm. As we have discussed in previous teachings, every person has three parts: spirit, soul, and body. Your soul is comprised of your mind, will, and emotions. Then there's the part of you that is spirit, which is the born-again human spirit if you become a Christian. All people have been created as spiritual beings who live in bodies and have souls. Ministers can operate under the leading of the Holy Spirit, then shift to being led by their emotions, perceptions, or even the demonic that operates through the soulish realm; this is why it is dangerous to seek after manifestations.

GIFTS AND FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit [the spiritual illumination and the enabling of the Holy Spirit] for the common good. To one is given through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] the message of wisdom, and to another [the power to express] the word of knowledge and understanding according to the same Spirit; to another [wonder-working] faith [is given] by the same [Holy] Spirit, and to another the [extraordinary] gifts of healing by the one Spirit; and to another the working of miracles, and to another prophecy [foretelling the future, speaking a new message from God to the people], and to another discernment of spirits [the ability to distinguish sound, godly doctrine from the deceptive doctrine of man-made religions and cults], to another various kinds of [unknown] tongues, and to another interpretations of tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues. All these things [the gifts, the achievements, the abilities, the empowering] are brought about by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, distributing to each individually just as He chooses.
1 Corinthians 12:7–11 AMP

But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22–23 AMP

Manifestations that are from God happen by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:7–11 lists the nine gifts of the Spirit, which are interpreted as manifestations of the Spirit. We also have the fruit of the Holy Spirit, the Lord's personality traits manifested through a human being's spirit. We should see the fruit and gifts of the Spirit coming forth, which originate from the other realm.

There are many different opinions concerning manifestations of the Holy Spirit. One of my pilots had been researching and asked me about the subject. He had discovered that some "Bible-believers" say we shouldn't be focusing on manifestations because they don't believe God does miracles anymore; they think we should only focus on the word of God. Then he found another camp that believes we should seek manifestations because they are evidence that God is working. When he asked me about this, I explained that there is a middle-of-the-road where we don't form doctrine based on manifestation. In other words, what we believe is based on the word of God, which is the absolute truth established in Heaven. It is also essential to understand that if something doesn't manifest, it doesn't mean it's not true; it just means there's a discrepancy between the realms.

There are not only physical and spiritual realms but also the psychological or soulish realm. Even though a person's spirit may be willing, their flesh may be weak, like Jesus said in the garden before He was crucified (Matthew 26:41). He was talking about the fact that the disciples needed to pray with him for an hour; still, they kept falling asleep, which was really spiritual warfare. He kept telling them essentially, "You've got to pray with me. Stay in there with me. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." The whole idea is that sometimes you must stand your ground until the manifestation comes through from the spirit realm into the physical realm.

It's crucial to have the correct biblical belief system; be careful to avoid having a wrong focus on manifestations. We don't want to discredit manifestations, but we don't want to chase after them either. Many people seek after and pursue manifestations, while others discredit the supernatural; both of these perceptions are wrong. We will continue to dive into the scriptures to gain an understanding of the truth concerning this matter.

o Why is it dangerous to chase after manifestations?

TRUE HUMILITY ALLOWS THE HOLY SPIRIT TO MANIFEST
I grew up in a staunch religious atmosphere where they were against miracles and discredited them as being from the devil. I also went through a phase of my life where I chased after manifestations like many people have, so I went through both extremes. One crucial point I want to address is the importance of humility. If I had been much more humble, I wouldn't have had to go through some of the hardships I endured. People tried to tell me, and the Holy Spirit tried to get the truth across, yet some truths took me many years to learn.

I remember sitting in Kenneth Hagin's class, between 15 and 20 feet from him, and listening to his teachings, some of which were extremely challenging. When he said certain things, I could feel the entire group of students resist him. There were times the class didn't agree with him, and he would call us out, saying, "Well, you just put the brakes on me—I could feel it. But you'll have to accept this because it is the word of God." The student body was not humble enough to accept some of his teachings. However, after 30 years, I discovered he was right about almost everything he said. It came back around to the fact that I needed to mature. Now my humility is to a place where I can accept truth without going through hardship.

True humility and the fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life.
Proverbs 22:4 NLT

True humility will allow you to find yourself in a position where the Holy Spirit can manifest in your life. Humility will also enable you to remain in the Spirit.

It's one thing to want to be humble and encounter manifestations, but another level when you face warfare and have to stick it out, knowing you've heard from God; this is even more important.

When God has legitimately spoken to you, you must know how to stand your ground. Most Christians don't know what to do when they encounter a challenging period of warfare; therefore, one of my assignments is to help you to develop the character to stand your ground in humility.

Once you know that you have heard from God or received a revelation concerning a certain truth, you need to stick it out. True humility will help you persevere and reward you with riches, honor, and long life, according to Proverbs 22:4. After all these years, I realized that Brother Hagin had gone through many experiences I hadn't encountered yet. There was a reason why he believed and taught certain truths that were obscure to most of us in the word of God; he had been quite a few paces ahead of us in revelation. The key is that humility allows you to receive wisdom which can prevent you from walking through difficulties that others have before you.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honor.
James 4:10 NLT

James 4:10 states that if we humble ourselves before the Lord, He will lift us up; some translations say in due season. I see more manifestation come forth where there is true humility. If you want to see the manifestation of the Spirit of God come, you should not seek it. I understand you would wish to have Jesus and angels appear to you. You may want to have dreams and visions and desire to be used in the gifts of the Spirit. I understand all that; however, when I was in Heaven, I saw that who you are as a person—your character—is most important. The fact that you are owned by God is enough to see manifestation wherever you go, whether it's the grocery store or your neighbor's house, or your workplace. Remember, you are His prized possession. In whatever you do, that manifestation will come when you know who you are in Christ, not because you are pushing for it.
So Jesus explained, "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by
Himself. He does only what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does."
John 5:19 NLT

Jesus never looked for a demon or picked a fight with the devil. He was always sent to certain places and led by the Spirit to speak. He taught on specific subjects, primarily the Kingdom of God, and was moved with compassion. As Jesus was sent, He did everything intentionally, yet didn't instigate warfare. The only time He picked fights was with the Pharisees because they were religious and were hindering the work of God. Jesus did not seek demons to cast out or people to heal; He would just do His Father's will, and people would get healed and delivered along the way.

We are all loved, accepted, known, and kept by the Lord; we should not seek after manifestations and visitations from God. Many TV programs, some of which I was on, pushed for miracles. If you look through the archives, you will see that when I was on TV, I attempted to combat that emphasis on manifestations by conveying that visitations are initiated by God. A visitation is something that the Lord ordains, and He's the one that chooses when it will occur; it's not random nor based on an angel's free will.

I want to emphasize that people should not assume they are doing well with the Lord if they have divine visitations, because that's not the case. In fact, I found that when I have a visitation or supernatural encounter with an angel, it's usually rough sailing ahead. They typically happen when the Lord knows I must be fortified for what's coming. It's almost always been the case. After most visitations or manifestations, it was difficult; the tough times did not just last for a couple of weeks, but sometimes a year or two after one encounter because the devil fought me afterward. You must know that manifestations are not a sign of success; it doesn't mean you are favored just because the Lord appears to you.

ALLOW THE LORD TO LEAD YOU
When we are sent, we should expect manifestations of the Holy Spirit; however, we must allow the Lord to lead us.

• Allow the Lord to lead you in ministering healing; don't force it. If the gift of healing is not in manifestation at the time, you may not see anybody get healed.

• If the word of knowledge isn't working at the time, you can't just push it. I've seen ministers do this and can feel it.

• I encourage our staff and all of you to never manufacture anything. If the Lord's not in it, just don't do it.

Manifestations of the Spirit come from the Holy Spirit's free will; He may choose not to do what you want. There is a reason why God may choose not to manifest a miracle. I've prayed for people who were in dire need of a specific thing, and Lord said, "No, you're not the one that's supposed to do that. They're in discipline right now, so I'm teaching them something. As soon as they're obedient, their finances will come through for them." He told me to encourage them to follow the Lord's instruction. He told me not to pay off their bills or do anything for them. God's will was to teach them to be obedient immediately; He wanted them to go back and remember the last thing the Lord told them to do, because they needed to do that. Often when people believe God for breakthroughs with healing, finances, and relationships, the Lord already gave instructions; they need to reconsider, find out what He was saying, and then do that immediately.

PRAYER:
Father, thank You so much for the manifestations of the Holy Spirit through the gifts and fruit of the Spirit. But most of all, we thank You for who You are as a Person and for loving us unconditionally. Whether we have manifestations or not, we know that You are faithful and that You're with us. Thank You, Lord, that You will confirm Your word with signs and wonders following. We will preach Your Word without trying to force a manifestation. Lord, we will not be frustrated when manifestations don't come; we love You, and we will be more mature than that. Thank You, Lord, that You're with all of my family all over the world and help everyone to know that they are dearly loved and appreciated, in Jesus's name, amen.
